System Design

Hydraulic system design — concept to completion, built around your application.

Whether you're designing a new hydraulic system from scratch or need expert input at a specific stage of the process, FPD has the experience and technical depth to deliver. We work across mobile plant, industrial machinery, and specialist equipment — taking projects from initial brief through detailed design, component selection, build, installation, and commissioning. Our extensive exposure to a wide range of sectors and machines allows us to bring expert knowledge and innovative solutions to every project. By leveraging the combined strengths of our highly skilled staff, we ensure the creation of efficient, reliable hydraulic systems that meet the specific needs of each application. Our design and engineering work is based out of FPD's Hamilton workshop at 205 Ellis Street, Frankton, where concepts move from paper to a built, tested system under one roof.

Our team brings over 40 years of hands-on hydraulic knowledge to every design project. That experience means fewer surprises, better component choices, and systems that perform reliably in the real world.

Design expertise grounded in workshop reality

A lot of hydraulic system design happens at a desk, disconnected from the practical realities of installation, maintenance, and long-term operation. FPD's approach is different. Because we also supply parts, rebuild components, and diagnose faults day-to-day, our design work is informed by what actually happens when systems are put to work — across industries, machine types, and operating conditions.

That means the systems we design are built not just to spec on paper, but to perform reliably in service, be maintainable in the field, and use components we know and trust.

Full-package design and build service

  • Concept and brief — We work with you to understand the application, operating environment, performance requirements, and constraints. From this, we develop a clear design brief.
  • System design — Detailed hydraulic circuit design, component selection, sizing, and schematic development. We design for performance, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
  • Component supply — As an importer and distributor of hydraulic components from leading global brands, we can supply most of what a system requires — often from local stock.
  • Build and assembly — Our workshop team assembles hydraulic power packs, manifolds, and system components to the design specification. Everything is checked before leaving the workshop.

Hydraulic Systems Design

What hydraulic systems design services does FPD offer?

FPD offers a full-package design and build service, taking projects from initial brief through detailed design, component selection and build. This covers the whole process: concept and brief, system design, component supply, build and assembly.

What types of equipment and industries does FPD design systems for?

FPD designs hydraulic systems across mobile plant, industrial machinery, and specialist equipment. Our broad exposure to different sectors and machine types informs the design work for each application.

Can FPD help with just one stage of a project, or only full builds?

Either. You can engage FPD to design a new system from scratch or bring them in for expert input at a specific stage of the process. They work from initial brief right through to commissioning, or on individual parts of that sequence.

Does FPD supply the components for the systems it designs?

Yes. As an importer and distributor of hydraulic components from leading global brands, FPD can supply most of what a system requires, often from local stock. Their design work uses components they know and trust from day-to-day supply and rebuild work.

What makes FPD's design approach different?

FPD's design work is grounded in workshop reality rather than done purely at a desk. Because they also supply parts, rebuild components, and diagnose faults daily, their designs account for what actually happens when systems are put to work, so the result is maintainable in the field and reliable in service.

How much hydraulic experience does the FPD team have?

FPD brings over 40 years of hands-on hydraulic knowledge to every design project. That experience means fewer surprises, better component choices, and systems that perform reliably in the real world.
